Joan B. Culla held a PhD in Contemporary History from the University of Barcelona and since 1977 worked as a professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Recognized as one of the leading specialists on the Middle East, he also published some twenty books on political and social aspects of 20th century Catalonia. An opinion columnist in the press for more than three decades, he also collaborated regularly in radio and television programs. Professor Culla passed away at the end of 2023, after having finished the new edition of this book, which he always considered as one of his prinicipal intellectual legacies.
