Juan Lerma

Dr. Juan Lerma (Moral de Calatrava, 1955) is a research professor at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and director of the Cajal International Neuroscience Center (CINC-CSIC). He has dedicated his life to unveiling the role played by glutamate receptors in the control of neuronal excitability and pathologies such as epilepsy, autism or Down syndrome. Since 2016, he has directed, as editor-in-chief, the scientific journal Neuroscience, flagship of the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO). He is a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), of the Academia Europaea and vice-president of the European Brain Council (EBC). He has also been director of the Institute of Neurosciences of Alicante (CSIC-UMH), scientific director of the “Severo Ochoa” Program of Excellence, president of the Spanish Society of Neuroscience (SENC) and president of the pan-European committee of IBRO.
